Our Journey

When I founded African Studio Safari’s, I brought with me extensive experience in overland safaris, from guiding to managing tours. My vision was clear: to establish a safari company that offers the same exceptional services as traditional operators, but with a keen understanding of the LGBTQ+ community's needs. Our goal is to ensure that every traveler feels safe, respected, and valued.

Overcoming Challenges
Having worked in the safari industry since 1994, I’ve encountered my share of challenges and discrimination. As a gay man, there were times when I wasn’t taken seriously—whether it was about changing a tire or leading a safari. I’ve also witnessed LGBTQ+ travelers feeling uncomfortable and unable to fully enjoy their trips. This inspired me to create a welcoming environment where everyone can be themselves.

Traveling as a Family
In 2020, my partner and I adopted a child, and our family travels have continued with wonderful experiences and minimal judgment. Our personal adventures underscore the importance of creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ families to explore the beauty of Africa.

Botswana
In 2019, Botswana decriminalized same-sex relationships, marking significant progress for LGBTQ+ rights. Mozambique
